Issues

The ship of state is sinking, and it’s time to send out the SOS.  In an economy like ours, it’s more important than ever that politicians allow the people to keep as much of their hard-earned money as possible, not to take it for redistribution to other, more politically-connected interest groups.  Josh Hanson will fight for you and your family, and will fight to ensure that when politicians are faced with a budget crisis, they don’t respond by taking more of your income to line their own pockets.

Improving Customer Service Through Accountability

Illinoisans are justifiably happy with the technological improvements that have been made in the Department of Motor Vehicles.  It is certainly more convenient and less costly to be able to carry out activities online.  On the other hand, customer service is about more than technology.  As long as an employment culture exists which tells government employees that there will be no consequences for poor customer service, the customer will not see significant improvements.  The time has come to hold government employees to the same standards as you and I.

Promoting Literacy by Empowering Families and Communities

As the State Librarian, the Secretary of State has the authority to provide grants and scholarships for the purpose of promoting literacy.  While the importance of literacy cannot be denied, the reality is that the state is poorly suited to carry out that task.  The state has no resources but those taken from the people, and only a fraction of those resources return to the people after being filtered through one of the most corrupt state governments in the U.S.   I believe that the essential job of promoting literacy belongs with the family and with the community, and that the resources to do that job should remain in the community where they belong, not in the hands of distant politicians.

Supporting Transparency and Disclosure

In the age of the internet, there is no excuse for government agencies to keep their finances a secret.  I believe that politicians are the employees of the people, and therefore the people deserve to know how every cent of their money is being spent.  I am committed to providing full disclosure of the expenditures of the Office of the Secretary of State.
